Temperatures were still below zero with some light snow, but the local fans still arrived in their thousands for Final 6 in Shadrinsk and once again they were treated to some exciting racing. They saw another Russian winner as Igor Kononov took the chequered flag after a hard fought battle with Dinar Valeev and Dmitry Khomitsevich after current champion Daniil Ivanov fell and was disqualified.

The qualifying races had seen Dmitry Khomitsevich looking unbeatable, but a fall in his fifth race saw a change in his fortune and although he qualified for the Final it was a missed opportunity to move to the top of the leader board.

Although he still leads the title race, Ivanov will not look back on his visit to Shadrinsk with any satisfaction. He seemed to be lacking power or motivation during the early races and won only two of his outings never looking like the champion we have seen to date. Having failed to make the final on the first day, a fall in his last race meant that he missed a podium place for the second successive Final.

There was much interest in the performance of Johann Weber who showed his best form of the year so far and was in second place in the qualifying scorers with thirteen race points, which included a win over Ivanov. It was unfortunate for him that some over enthusiasm in his Semi Final resulted in a fall and although he was uninjured that spelled the end of his afternoon’s racing.

Harald Simon was not as successful as on the previous day with only two race points, but keeps his position in the intermediate classification and Martin Haarahiltunen took ten race points to maintain his position in the chasing pack.

Individual racing will take a break until Finals 7 and 8 are held at Inzell on 15th and 16th March, but before that the2020 FIM Ice Speedway of Nations will start in Berlin on 29th February.
